Assistive Technology (AT) recommendations and training
-
Assistive technology is any technology designed to help children, students or adults who have learning disabilities. Assistive technology can help them to function and compensate for their learning disabilities. While AT is unable to eliminate learning problems entirely, AT help students to capitalize on their strengths and minimize their weaknesses.
-
Incorporation of assistive technology into the way they like to work helps people to deliver their potential and provides dyslexics with greater confidence and satisfaction.
-
Before recommending one or more pieces of AT we spend time getting to know the individual, their strengths and weaknesses, what they struggle with and most importantly how they work. Recommending AT that does not fit with how someone likes to work does not become incorporated in their activities, and so ultimately is not useful. For this reason just getting a list of the 'top 10' pieces of assistive technology does not help.
-
We will only recommend a piece of AT if we feel there is a good opportunity for that technology to be incorporated into a person's regular way of working. For that reason, depending upon the number and areas where technology can assist a person with their activities we would typically recommend between – 2 to 4 pieces of AT.
-
To provide AT recommendations we can work either online or one-to-one with an individual.
-
We provide one-to-one training, either online or face-to-face, on many pieces of assistive technology. For some pieces of AT we may bring in a 3rd party to perform the training.
-
For both the AT recommendations and training services we charge £45 per hour for this service.
